Response from Creative: 3/12/2002 3:06:27 PM Todd, 1) Are there firmware revisions in which the jukebox will give any indication of the recording line input level? I do not know of any such Firmware for a PEEK METER. 2) If not, can you tell me what the clipping level is for the line input with 0dB of recording line input gain selected? I have no information for this. sorry. BUT... Thank you for the suggestion, this information has been forwarded to the engineers. sorry, but I don't have the information on a specific level. I believe that this varies from machine to machine. and may need some kind of calibration. ---------- OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD... I have an idea that may make it possible to determine such a level / IE: to calibrate a specific Jukebox Create and save Sinewave ( at aprox 1KHz) Record this to some media for playback. call it (SineA) Measure the output voltage level for SineA playing. Adjust the level so it does not exceed 2v RMS. Make a second Sinewave (Call it SineB) at the same level, but this time use a linear volume RAMP from 0 to 100% of the range of the playback time ADD a Timming Pulse near the beginning and the End of SineB Record SineB on the JukeBox. Find the start Timing pluses, and the point of CLIPPING occurs. Compute the DELTA Time, and divide by the total time. this should be a % of the whole time And should als be the % of the current volume level to adjust down to. Now you should be able to calibrate the volume level /voltage level for max record level to the JukeBox I thing 80% of that is a normalized level. ( but you know what that should be.) If you are unable to answer this question accurately, please escalate. :-) 1) Are there firmware revisions in which the jukebox will give any indication of the recording line input level? 2) If not, can you tell me what the clipping level is for the line input with 0dB of recording line input gain selected? Use that motivates this question: I'm using this device to record live music from a mixing console that provides a line level output. Very often the recording is too quiet, sometimes it is distorted an over loud. Absent a level meter on the player itself, it's a guessing game. If you can tell me the voltage at wihch the input clips with 0dB gain selected, I could use the level meter on mixer along with the mixer's recording output level control to supply the appropriate signal level.
